Christian School Answers the Prayer of a Dying Woman

Last October, I was invited to accompany Vickie Winkler, founder and President of HEART when she spoke at Appleton Christian School. This is a small private elementary school here in Wisconsin where I had subbed for the first and second graders.  We had about a half an hour to share stories about all the wonderful things that HEART is doing in Kenya, Africa.  After the presentation Mrs. Gerstl, a teacher there and a dear friend of mine, coordinated a fun fundraiser with the students to raise money for the goats and uniforms project. Less than a hundred students and staff raised $900.00!

When I went to Kenya in February of this year to work with HEART teaching in the schools, we were able to schedule a day in the Mathare slums.  We worked with a young man named Nick and the Community Transformers who care for the sick there.  We visited Julia, an HIV positive woman who was bedridden in her home.  I was shocked to hear that she was 35 years old.  AIDS had so consumed her little body and she looked as though she were 90 years old!  We visited with her and asked how we could pray for her.  She whispered in such a small voice it was hard to hear but her heart's desire was that God would provide uniforms for her little girls so that they could go to school!  We were elated!  It is an awesome thing to realize that together we can be answers to prayer.  We had the funds from the children here in my hometown and we able to bless two girls in Africa and grant their dying mother's last request!  Wow!  What a wonderful God we serve!  What wild ways He uses to answer prayer!  Upon returning home, I learned that Julia died, but that her girls did receive uniforms.  I was able to go back to Appleton Christian School and share with the students that their giving was used by God to bless a dying women and her children.
